LISTSERV Maestro can be set up at the administration level to support American Online Rich Text format (X-AOL). When the system administrator has enabled this function in the LUI.INI file, a set of option buttons will appear on the Alternative Text tab of the Define Content screen, if alternative text is selected with the creation of an HTML message.

Appendix D AOL Rich Text Format

AOL rich text format for alternative text in an HTML message

X-AOL format supports a limited number of HTML tags, and is compatible with AOL e-mail. It is the user's responsibility to recognize which HTML tags and other formatting is acceptable in order to prepare a properly formatted X-AOL alternative text message.

LISTSERV Maestro will display all URLs enclosed within quotation marks (") during the click-through tracking definition (if selected). Only URLs that are HREF attributes of tags should be considered for tracking, however.

Upload the AOL Rich Text file or type directly in the Alternative Text box. At present, there is no way to preview this format of alternative text, and the HTML tags will appear as part of the body of the message. The tags will, however, be interpreted by the AOL e-mail client. Use LISTSERV Maestro's Delivery Test functions to make sure the X-AOL formatted alternative text appears as expected for those recipients using AOL e-mail.
