LISTSERV Introduces Industry's Only No-Compromise DMARC Fix

Make the jump to LISTSERV 16.0-2014b

Using an old version or another email list manager? Make the Jump to LISTSERV 16.0-2014b.

People on email discussion lists began experiencing giant hassles in April when Yahoo – followed soon after by AOL – implemented aggressive DMARC p=reject policies without warning. On April 25, L-Soft introduced the industry's only seamless solution to the DMARC problem in LISTSERV 16.0-2014a. A newer version, LISTSERV 16.0-2014b, which also features support for subdomain DMARC records, is now available. The DMARC fix in LISTSERV does not require anyone to make compromises or lose any functionality – not even Yahoo and AOL subscribers.

"Once you install the update, everything works just like it did before the DMARC debacle; incoming Yahoo and AOL addresses are automatically rewritten to local addresses that can receive private replies and forward them to the original poster," said Eric Thomas, L-Soft Founder and CEO and LISTSERV Inventor. "And if other email providers adopt similar aggressive DMARC policies in the future, LISTSERV will automatically handle those addresses in the same way."

Many L-Soft customers have expressed their satisfaction with the DMARC fix in LISTSERV.

"The recent problems with the Yahoo/AOL DMARC issue were fixed quicker than I was expecting – I'd received some advice that other email services would 'follow suit' and that we'd be stopping more and more services from posting to lists, a situation which we wouldn't have been able to sustain. But I was very pleased that a solution was found and implemented so quickly," said Lisa Vincent, Operations Manager, JISCMail.

Q:

How can I troubleshoot LDAP connections for my LISTSERV installation?

Answer by Liam Kelly
Senior Consulting Analyst, L-Soft

In the past, we've covered the integration of LISTSERV with LDAP data sources like OpenLDAP and Active Directory. While assisting customers with technical support for LISTSERV's LDAP configuration, we've found that most problems arise from customers either not knowing what settings are required to connect to their LDAP server or not knowing how to translate those settings to LISTSERV site configuration settings. In this tech tip, we'll look at how to test your LDAP connection using standard Windows and Unix LDAP tools, and how to apply those settings to LISTSERV once you've made a successful connection.

Q:

What is the most effective way to use the A/B-split testing feature in LISTSERV Maestro?

Answer by Johannes Hubert
Senior Applications Programmer, L-Soft

In the field of email marketing, A/B-split testing is a useful tool to find out how certain variations in the message affect the message's success. In its simplest form, A/B-split testing means that for a given job you split the list of recipients into several batches and send a different version of the message to each batch. Then you analyze which version was most successful and use these insights to optimize your next message. With A/B sampling variants, LISTSERV Maestro goes beyond this simple A/B-split testing, allowing you to first send out several sampling variants and then select the best performer to send to the rest of your recipients.

L-Soft Moving to New U.S. Headquarters This Summer

L-Soft is relocating its U.S. headquarters to Bethesda, Maryland, in the national capital area, this summer. L-Soft is the first participant in Montgomery County's MOVE program, aimed at attracting cybersecurity, green technology, IT and life science businesses to the county.

"To sum up on MOVE, what the program means to us is that we are going to have a higher standard in our new office, which in turn will make it easier to attract and motivate the kind of talent we need to grow the company in this economy," said Eric Thomas, Founder and CEO of L-Soft. "It also made us feel welcome and appreciated. I like that the county is actively trying to bring in IT companies because it can eventually lead to networking and partnership opportunities. Most IT companies are in Silicon Valley where the culture is so different. Sometimes it feels like the main focus is stock appreciation during the next M&A deal. We badly need a counterpoint to Silicon Valley with different values, and maybe this is the first piece of the puzzle."
