In his early teens in Paris, Eric Thomas spends his weekends programming an IBM 370 mainframe.

Finding computers that the general public is allowed to use is no easy task.

Eric finds a computer – and fame, proving that IBM mainframe defenses aren't impenetrable after all.

At university, Eric is determined to find a solution for the slow, manual, @#$#%! email lists of the time.

On this very IBM 3279-3 terminal, on June 23rd, 1986, LISTSERV is born.
